Art History Study Programme: Field Trip to Vukovar<\/strong><\/p>\n

On 23 May 2026, a field trip to Vukovar was held as part of regular classes in the courses 20th-Century Art, Museum Theory and Practice, and Research Methodology and Modalities of Writing about Art in the undergraduate Art History study programme. Four of the six third-year Art History students and eight of the eleven second-year Art History students participated.<\/p>\n

The institutions in which the field trip activities took place were the Vukovar City Museum and the Vu\u010dedol Culture Museum. The following activities were carried out: at the Vukovar City Museum, classes were held as part of the permanent exhibition and the Bauer Collection exhibition. At the Vu\u010dedol Culture Museum, classes were held as part of the permanent exhibition.<\/p>\n

The aim of the field trip was to introduce students to museums and current exhibition programmes and to provide them with an opportunity to analyse exhibitions for the purpose of writing a seminar paper. The following expected outcomes of the field trip were achieved: familiarising students with the activities of two important museum institutions of the complex and specialised type in eastern Croatia, respectively, and with the museological concept of their permanent exhibitions. Furthermore, students became acquainted with the styles, movements, artists and works of visual art of the 20th and 21st centuries, learned to recognise and identify 20th-century art styles and examples of modern and postmodern art. By visiting the exhibitions, students gained insight into the exhibition activities of top-level museum institutions and became familiar with different forms of museum communication, as well as with museological aspects of the interpretation of museum objects.<\/p>\n

Field Trip Held as Part of the Course Croatian and Regional Economic History of the 19th and 20th Centuries<\/strong><\/p>\n

On 20 May 2026, as part of the course \u201cCroatian and Regional Economic History of the 19th and 20th Centuries\u201d, students visited the Beli\u0161\u0107e City Museum. Under the expert guidance of museum director Nada \u0110ilas Bosanac, the students toured the museum exhibition dedicated to the industrial character of the settlement.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beli\u0161\u0107e was founded in 1884 by S. H. Gutmann d. d. with the aim of exploiting Slavonia\u2019s forest resources, which from the mid-19th century formed the basis of highly competitive business operations. The company developed its business by relying on intensive exploitation of timber resources and their industrial processing. Given the predominantly rural character of Slavonia in the 19th century, from the very foundation of Beli\u0161\u0107e its population consisted largely of an immigrant workforce connected with the industrial development of the settlement.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In this sense, the Beli\u0161\u0107e City Museum presents the development of the industrial colony, including the construction of residential buildings, supporting infrastructure and the railway network that connected forest operations with the surrounding civilian settlements. <\/span>In order to maximise production, the company significantly developed various branches of supporting industry connected with wood production, particularly the chemical industry. A special feature of Beli\u0161\u0107e is the fact that even today a large share of the employed population works in the industrial sector.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t
