Projects<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Department of Information Sciences has initiated and\/or participates in the implementation of the following projects:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

Monitoring and Analysis of Changes on the .hr Domain (praprod.hr)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The praprod.hr project establishes a system for continuous four-year monitoring and analysis of the .hr domain, responding to the need for continued research and the lack of longitudinal studies in the field. The aim is to monitor and analyse changes in technological development and identify key trends and issues such as digital in\/accessibility, information obsolescence and security vulnerabilities. Data are collected during the same period each year according to the list of .hr domains (source: CARNET). As part of the project, a high-performance computer is being acquired which, in addition to the web crawling process itself, will enable the use of large language models such as Llama and the open-webui interface for using these models. Using developed scripts and software tools, and in compliance with web crawling rules, the data are stored in a relational database. By using the data obtained through web crawling and a powerful AI machine for advanced local analysis, thereby protecting data privacy, the project enables technical analyses (key speed metrics, W3C and WCAG recommendations), content analyses (SEO, visual elements, cultural heritage and other domain analyses, e.g. in the humanities), and analyses of aspects of digital continuity (privacy, security, “digital decay”, open educational resources). The key project results include an established web crawling infrastructure, a valuable longitudinal dataset on the .hr domain space, AI infrastructure for future research, events in the form of popular science gatherings at which project results are presented, and scholarly publications on the dynamics and phenomena of the Croatian web space.<\/p>\n

\"\"TECH4LIFE – Research on the Impact of (Wearable) Technology and Artificial Intelligence on Quality of Life (581-UNIOS-59)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The TECH4LIFE project investigates the impact of (wearable) technology and artificial intelligence on the quality of life of citizens of the Republic of Croatia, with an emphasis on physical and mental health and well-being, everyday functioning, leisure, mobility and digital inclusion. The aim of the project is to identify the theoretical and practical prerequisites for the optimal application of these technologies in everyday life and to provide recommendations for their integration into national digital strategies. The project uses an interdisciplinary approach through quantitative and qualitative research with an emphasis on national relevance and contribution to the digital transition. Particular attention is devoted to certain groups at risk of social exclusion, such as older people, people with chronic illnesses and people with disabilities. The results include recommendations and guidelines for policymakers, scholarly publications, and educational and science communication activities. The project contributes to research excellence, strengthens cooperation with the business sector and enhances social responsibility. It is aligned with national and EU strategic documents, including the National Development Strategy of the Republic of Croatia until 2030 and Digital Croatia 2030, and promotes the strengthening of national capacities in the fields of digital health and artificial intelligence. The project strengthens digital inclusion, increases the visibility of Croatian research and enhances Croatia’s position as an innovative society of health and technology.<\/p>\n

Context and motivation<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unwanted loneliness (SND \u2013 “Soledad No Deseada”) is becoming an increasingly widespread problem among students in Spain. Although traditionally associated with older people, recent national studies reveal a significant impact on young people, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic. This project focuses on researching the role of public libraries<\/strong> in addressing SND among students in the cities of Madrid and Osijek<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The project highlights that libraries are often underused as community spaces for emotional support and social connectedness. SOLIBCM seeks to identify how libraries can become key actors in preventing SND and promoting mental well-being and community engagement.<\/p>\n
