Information Sciences Student Club \u201cLibros\u201d (Information Sciences Student Association \u201cLibros\u201d)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Information Sciences Student Club \u201cLibros\u201d was founded in 2003 on the initiative of students of the then Chair of Library Science: Marta Crljen, Boris Ki\u0161, Lana Jovanovac and Maja Krtali\u0107, with the aim of bringing students together and encouraging cooperation and more active engagement during their studies. Today, the Club has 61 members, with undergraduate and graduate students represented in approximately equal numbers.<\/p>\n

During its 15 years of existence, the Club and its members have participated in a wide range of extracurricular activities that have contributed to improving the quality of the student experience and, more generally, the lives of citizens in the local community (conferences such as KulenDayz in Osijek and InfoDASKA in Zagreb, Zadar and Mostar, BOBCATSSS in Latvia, France, the Czech Republic, Germany, Croatia (Osijek) and other countries, the WeAreDevelopers conference in Vienna, LIDA in Zadar and Dubrovnik, the FEIS conference in Pisa, the \u201cPublishing: Trends and Contexts\u201d conference in Zagreb, the Codeanywhere Shift conference in Split, the Droidcon conference in Zagreb, the PHP conference in Belgrade, the Seventh Industrial Conference on Industrial Heritage in Rijeka, the MIPRO conference in Opatija and WebCamp in Zagreb). Over the past several years, students have successfully organised the popular RoboCode workshops with Lego Mindstorms robots, \u201cLibrary Laboratory for Preschoolers\u201d workshops as part of the Creative Treasury, workshops at the Science Festival, as well as humanitarian and creative workshops at the Klasje Children’s Home.<\/p>\n

Students have participated in professional and research projects such as the Prandau \u2013 Normann project at the Museum of Slavonia marking International Museum Day, the project \u201cThrough the Streets of Osijek Following Local Writers\u201d, the \u201cLiving Museum\u201d project marking European Museum Night at the Museum of Slavonia in Osijek, and the Stem Kitteens project. These activities also include the Pop-up Picnic at the Ethno House in Habjanovci, the lecture Interactive Children’s Picture Book as part of Museum Night, and the Student Philosophy Symposium in Montenegro.<\/p>\n

The Club also publishes a journal of the same name, \u201cLibros\u201d, which has been published since 2009. Students participate fully in the work on the journal, which received the Rector’s Award for its 7th issue in 2018, while professors provide professional assistance and suggestions.<\/p>\n

Today, the Club is managed by students of the Department of Information Sciences at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, and its purpose is to promote librarianship and information science. We operate by respecting diversity of views, thoughts and ideas, freedom of choice, organisational autonomy, openness and democratic expression of opinions, as well as the responsibility of individuals and the organisation for their work.<\/p>\n

Membership in the Club is voluntary. Regular members may include all students of Information Sciences, Information Science and Publishing at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek who complete the online membership form available on the Club’s Facebook page. Associate members of the Club may include all graduates of Information Sciences from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek, as well as all current students of the Faculty. However, students from other chairs and departments, as well as anyone interested in cooperation, are also welcome.<\/p>\n
