on the occasion of World Philosophy Day<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

dedicated to Gilles Deleuze<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

\u2193\u2193<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

DELEUZE \u2013 signposts toward a \u201cnon-fascist existence\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Is there any thinker today without whom the contemporary world cannot be thought? Yes, of course, there are still living philosophers who think our Jetzt-Zeit<\/em><\/strong> radically. Agamben, Badiou, Ranci\u00e8re\u2026 to mention only those whose names resonate most forcefully in the consciousness of the author of these lines, or in the self-consciousness of the still-surviving \u201cintellectuals\u201d. But WHO truly is the most important philosopher of the 21st century? Michel Foucault had no doubts. Undoubtedly, it was, and for us today still is \u2013 Gilles DELEUZE.<\/p>\n

Cui bono<\/em>? What is it that makes this thinker of Difference and Repetition<\/em><\/strong>, The Logic of Sense<\/em><\/strong>, and finally Capitalism and Schizophrenia<\/em><\/strong> so important and decisive? Nothing less than the very \u201cmatter of thinking\u201d! Yet for Deleuze this is not a Heideggerian dictum. For what is at stake here is not the \u201cmeaning of Being\u201d and its \u201cforgetting\u201d. Nor is it a Platonically conceived \u201chistory of philosophy\u201d as one grand history that considers what we call the \u201cworld\u201d from the vantage point of a transcendent IDEA.<\/p>\n

Deleuze calls for \u2013 ungrounding<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The paradigm of understanding philosophy as the \u201cart of forming, inventing and fabricating concepts\u201d (So, the question is<\/em>\u2026) \u2013 in the joint effort Deleuze undertakes in synergy with F\u00e9lix GUATTARI \u2013 culminates in the \u201ccreative construction of becoming\u201d. Philosophy is a matter of IMMANENCE. It concerns what is tangible and vitally present, here and now<\/em>, in a world understood as \u201centropically networked orders of SOCIETIES OF CONTROL<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n

The concept must be wrested away from the \u201cdesiring-machines\u201d within the information-communication universe that controls us and, immanently, precisely \u201ccreates\/constructs desire\u201d. This \u201csaving of the concept\u201d is possible only through permanent DE-TERRITORIALIZATION and through finding \u201clines of flight\u201d from the Matrix<\/em> of an increasingly incomprehensible capitalism that ever more inexorably eludes us and has wholly transformed into a \u201cwar machine\u201d.<\/p>\n

What is the \u201ctask\u201d of philosophy today? It consists in a constant, ever-renewed \u201cstruggle against capitalism\u201d. But\u2026 what is even more important? What is even more \u201cacute\u201d in our surroundings? To recognize it and then fight<\/em><\/strong> its inherent conceptual-semantic \u201ctwin brother\u201d. Namely, fascism<\/em><\/strong>\u2026 No motif of the present is more current, more symptomatic<\/em>, than this Deleuzian \u201cdiagnosis\u201d.<\/p>\n

NO\u2026 it is not a totalitarian organism, but a cancerous body<\/em><\/strong>. When the \u201cwar machine takes over the state\u201d, we get precisely what we have deserved through passive indifference \u2013 fascism. Let us understand the struggle against it as an effort and a necessary condition of our survival, and the meaningfulness of a \u201cnon-fascist existence\u201d as a necessary precondition for the (recovery?) of the humanities, and then of philosophy itself.<\/p>\n

Therefore, for \u201cWorld Philosophy Day\u201d (wow!), at FFOS, on Thursday, 20 November (Room 39), we will talk about Deleuze and the legacy of his thought.<\/p>\n

If there is any reason for us still to be<\/em> at all\u2026<\/p>\n
