Reflections on the Field Trip for the Course The First Classic of Croatian Literature<\/p>\n

The field trip for the course The First Classic of Croatian Literature<\/em> took place in Split on 23 and 24 April. Monika Bijeli\u0107 and I, Mihaela Antolovi\u0107, were delighted to travel to Split for the 36th Maruli\u0107 Days. The official opening took place the previous day, when Professor P\u0161ihistal delivered an address for the occasion, while our encounter with Maruli\u0107 began on Thursday at the Marko Maruli\u0107 City Library with the opening of the \u201cMarulArtFest\u201d exhibition. We enthusiastically viewed the exhibition, which featured artists inspired by Maruli\u0107\u2019s Judita<\/em>. Afterwards, we attended the first session of the academic conference Colloquium Marulianum XXXVI<\/em> at the Old City Hall, followed by a Croatian studies workshop led by Professors Ru\u017eica P\u0161ihistal and Sanja Vuli\u0107, which focused on Prayer Against the Turks<\/em> and the fourth canto of Judita<\/em>. In the evening, we attended a ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the Marulianum<\/em> Centre.<\/p>\n

The following day, we attended the second part of the academic conference, including an interesting lecture on early modern Latin inscriptions in the churches of southern Istria. Another workshop was held, while the book Marule na\u0161 \u010destiti<\/em> was presented at the Old City Hall.<\/p>\n

Finally, together with Professor Ru\u017eica P\u0161ihistal, we explored Split by following in Maruli\u0107\u2019s footsteps, visiting the house believed to be his birthplace, the Papali\u0107 Palace, the monument to Maruli\u0107, the Church of St Francis and the cathedral. This brought our field trip in Maruli\u0107\u2019s city to a close in the most fitting way possible.<\/p>\n

It was a valuable and enjoyable experience that allowed us to encounter Maruli\u0107 more directly.<\/p>\n
