He then reflected on his own writing process and on the therapeutic value of writing and reading as ways of gaining self-knowledge and developing greater empathy for others. Emphasising the almost magical dimension of delving into one\u2019s inner self and confronting thoughts that we do not allow to surface in everyday rational thinking, Gabud pointed out that this is the key to good poetry \u2013 drawing emotion out of oneself and others. This was followed by a reading and a joint discussion of the writing process, inspiration and difficulties, during which the participants laughed at their own \u201cstruggle\u201d to incorporate two vivid motifs \u2013 yellow thread and purple hair.
