Can we expect the End of Capitalism<\/em><\/strong>? And\u2026 can we hope that this most radical incarnation of the ruling economic and political regime in the history of class antagonism \u2013 between those who rule and those who are ruled \u2013 will one day reach its (desirable!) end?<\/p>\n

\u201cCapitalism does not work \u2013 but it still rules,\u201d reads the cover of the publication appearing before us precisely hic et nunc<\/em>. Before whom? Well, before us, who still care about a better, truer, more real, more just<\/strong> and, ultimately\u2026 more beautiful world<\/strong>. Or at least a more bearable one, we might say with a certain cynical restraint. The subtitle of Katarina Peovi\u0107\u2019s<\/strong> book itself introduces a certain reservation regarding the context in which the publication\u2019s central question appears. Namely, \u201cWhile the old is dying and the new cannot be born,\u201d an age of monsters begins<\/em> (as Antonio Gramsci puts it in his Prison Notebooks<\/em>). How are we to deal with all of this while what we call the \u201cworld\u201d plunges into the abysses of war, poverty and hunger? All because of the unquestioned rule of the only subject-substance<\/em> of the present \u2013 Capitalism.<\/p>\n

Katarina Peovi\u0107, professor of Cultural Studies at the University of Rijeka, is an ideal interlocutor for a discussion on this topic. In addition to her university vocation, her other <\/em>Beruf<\/strong> is activism and a constant struggle for the rights of the most vulnerable in society<\/strong> (or what remains of it). Katarina was also a member of the Croatian Parliament from 2020 to 2024. However, her intellectual habitus is not exhausted by formal positions, but is reflected in her continuous presence in the public sphere and her persistent commitment and STRUGGLE<\/strong> for improvement in the society in which we live.<\/em><\/p>\n

The End of Capitalism<\/em><\/strong>? While the Old Is Dying and the New Cannot Be Born<\/em> is a collection of texts published in Obzor<\/em>, a supplement to Ve\u010dernji list<\/em>, from June 2024 to July 2025. Adapted into the form of a scholarly study, the texts are not only intellectually stimulating reading, but much more than that. \u201cAs a successful blend of journalism and theory, Katarina Peovi\u0107\u2019s book is above all an advocacy of libertarian disobedience, of a spirit that refuses to submit to the prevailing order.\u201d This is how the book was described by one of the most important guests in EstLab\u2019s five-year history \u2013 Viktor<\/em><\/strong> Ivan\u010di\u0107.<\/p>\n

In Croatia, following the final entry included in the book, things have only grown worse. Especially after the epochal<\/em>(!?) turning point and the \u201cspectacle\u201d at the Hippodrome on 5 July 2025.<\/p>\n

In conversation with Katarina Peovi\u0107, we will attempt to awaken a \u201ccall\u2026 (to) wake up from social apathy\u2026 for those who feel that the system is bursting at the seams and are looking for a clear political\u2026 answer\u201d: \u0427\u0442\u043e \u0434\u0435\u043b\u0430\u0442\u044c?<\/strong>?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
