Anita Ruso Brečić (1987) graduated in Art History and French Language and Literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, in 2011. She received her PhD in 2016 from the École Pratique des Hautes Études (PSL Research University Paris). She was awarded several scholarships for study and research abroad, including an Erasmus student mobility grant, a scholarship from the French Embassy in Croatia, a MOBIdoc grant for doctoral students, and a scholarship from the École française de Rome.

She pursued postdoctoral training at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb as part of the Croatian Science Foundation research project Visualizing the National, led by Jasenka Gudelj. She participated in several international conferences and scholarly meetings, including Renaissance Research Colloquium – Renaissance Young Scholars International Meeting, University of Jaén, 2019; Cities in Crisis: Emergency Measures in Architecture and Urbanism, 1400–1700, Bibliotheca Hertziana, Rome, 2018; Métier de l’architecte au XVIIIe siècle, Paris Nanterre University, 2017; and The Fourth Forum of Critical Studies: Urban Transformations, Transition and Change in Urban Image Construction, Lucca, 2015.

She organised the international workshop International Workshop on Methodology in Research of Protonational Institutions in Visual Arts, Dubrovnik, 2018, as well as the international conference Visualising Past in a Foreign Country: Schiavoni/Illyrian Confraternities and Colleges in Early Modern Italy in Comparative Perspective, Zagreb, 2017. She is the author of seven scholarly articles published in international and Croatian A1 journals and Croatian A2 journals.

She has been active as an art critic since 2014 and regularly contributes to the journals Vijenac and Kontura. She also works as an external curator with numerous museums, galleries, and cultural institutions in Croatia.
