Field Trip to Travnik
On Friday, 22 May 2026, students of the Department of Croatian Language and Literature and the Department of Information Sciences, as well as doctoral students of the doctoral study programme Literature and Cultural Identity at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek, participated in a field trip to Travnik under the guidance of Prof. Marica Liović, PhD, and Prof. Kristina Peternai Andrić, PhD.
As has now become traditional, the field trip begins at Plava voda, at the so-called Sofra, because in the literary geography of Andrić’s most extensive work, Bosnian Chronicle, this location represents both the opening and closing scene. Following an introductory section aimed at situating Travnik within the personal and professional biography of the writer Ivo Andrić, we proceeded to the Nobel laureate’s birthplace, as the main purpose of the field trip is to visit the Ivo Andrić Birth House Memorial Museum. We were welcomed by senior curator Enes Škrgo, who guided us through the rooms of the birth house. The museum consists of three rather small rooms: a room dedicated to Bosnian Chronicle; a room housing editions of the Nobel laureate’s works in various languages (Andrić’s literary oeuvre has been translated into more than 50 languages worldwide), as well as more than 700 journals from around the world dealing with Andrić’s works (the curator particularly emphasised the value of periodicals in which Ivo Andrić first published his works); and a third room representing a reconstruction of the living space of Travnik residents during the final decade of the 19th century.
