Boris Bosančić graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Slavonski Brod in 1996. From 1998 to 2001, he worked at the “Đuro Đaković” factory as a maintenance engineer. In 2001, he began working at the City Library of Slavonski Brod. That same year, he enrolled in the part-time study programme in Library Science at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, which he completed in 2003. He obtained his master’s degree from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, in 2009, and his PhD from the University of Zadar in 2011. He has been working at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek since 2005 and currently holds the position of Full Professor of Information Sciences.

In his scientific and research work, he initially focused on the practical application of theoretical knowledge within library and information science in the fields of digital libraries, digital repositories and e-learning tools. During this period, he published papers on markup languages, metadata and online learning.

Today, his main area of interest is related to the concept of information and the related concepts of data and knowledge from historical, epistemological, social and technological perspectives. More recently, he has begun publishing philosophical and scientific papers on the philosophy of science and epistemology, with an emphasis on the epistemological role of the concepts of data, information and knowledge in the process of knowledge acquisition and communication. He is particularly interested in the development of the Semantic Web, linked data technologies and, more broadly, the possibilities of machine understanding and artificial intelligence.

He explored the scientific topics that occupy his research interests in literary form in the novel In the Land of the Blue Ostrich, published in 2015 by Naklada Breza. His inclination towards philosophical reflection on the theoretical foundations of information sciences led him to consider the role of science as a whole and philosophy more generally. In 2021, TIM Press published his philosophical book (Post)Nietzschean Reflections: Untimely Considerations of a Nietzschean, dedicated to the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. His scientific book Information in Theory, published by Naklada Ljevak, was expected to be released in 2022.
