Domagoj Tomas (Osijek, 1987). He completed undergraduate and graduate studies in History and Croatian Language and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek. He earned his PhD in 2016 from the postgraduate doctoral programme in History at the Centre for Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb. He is employed as an Associate Professor at the Department of History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek, where he teaches courses in modern and contemporary history. As an editor, he published the books: Five Lines: The Roman Diary of Priest Ivan Tomas, 1943 – 1944 (2014), Song of Hunger: The Life and Work of Ilija Glavota (1891 – 1916) (2016; in collaboration with Kristina Malbašić), and We Refugees: Reflections on Contemporary Croatian Issues from the Perspective of a Refugee Camp (2022; in collaboration with Slađana Josipović), and he also co-edited the volume Local Government and Self-Government in the History of Slavonia, Syrmia and Baranya (2024; in collaboration with Ana Rajković Pejić). He is the author of the monographs Apostolic Administration for Northern Slavonia and Baranya (1923 – 1972) (2018) and Ideology, Guilt and Retaliation: Vlaho Lovrić and the (Dis)continuities of the First Half of the 20th Century (2021). He has presented papers at numerous national and international scientific conferences and has published a number of scientific and professional articles in various journals and conference proceedings. As part of the Erasmus+ student mobility programme, he studied at the University of Pécs (2014/2015, summer semester), and he received a Tempus scholarship from the Hungarian government to participate in the Summer School of Hungarian Language and Culture at the University of Pécs (2017). As part of professional development through the Erasmus+ mobility programme, he stayed at the Catholic University in Ružomberok (2018/2019), Masaryk University in Brno (2021/2022), and the University of Ljubljana (2021/2022). As part of CEEPUS teaching mobility, he stayed at the University of Mostar (2023/2024). He is Vice-President of the Osijek Branch of Matica hrvatska and a member of the Croatian National Committee for Historical Sciences. His research interests include intellectual history of the 20th century, church-state relations in the 20th century, Croatian-Hungarian relations in the 20th century, Croatian emigration during the Cold War, and the local history of the city of Osijek.
