prof. dr. sc. Gabrijela Buljan

Gabrijela Buljan graduated in English Language and Literature and German Language and Literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek in 2000, after spending the final year of her studies at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in the United States. She completed her doctoral studies in linguistics in 2007 at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. Since 2001, she has been employed at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek, where she teaches a number of linguistics courses at the undergraduate study programme in English Language and Literature, and since 2024 she has held the position of Full Professor with tenure. She served as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Jezikoslovlje (https://doi.org/10.29162/jez) from 2018 to 2021 and is currently a member of its editorial board, as well as the editorial board of the journal Explorations in English Language and Linguistics (https://doi.org/10.51558). She is the recipient of two Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences awards for scientific research in the humanities (in 2018 and 2020).

Her research interests include cognitive linguistics and word formation, while her research has also addressed topics in phraseology and syntax.

Gabrijela Buljan received her bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature and German Language and Literature in 2000, after spending her senior year at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, USA. In 2007, she received her doctoral degree in Humanities/Linguistics from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb. Since 2001 she has been a member of the English Department of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek, currently teaching as a full professor a number of undergraduate linguistics courses. Between 2018 and 2021 she was Editor-in-Chief of the journal Jezikoslovlje. She is now a member of its editorial board and sits on the board of the journal Explorations in English Language and Linguistics. She was a two-time recipient of the annual award for research in humanities granted by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek (in 2018 and 2020).

Her main areas of interest include cognitive linguistics and word formation. Her past research also includes topics in phraseology and syntax.
