Since 2013, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek has been organizing popular science public lectures and panel discussions as part of a series entitled Open Thursday. These lectures are based on scientific research and are delivered by professors, teaching assistants and research assistants from FFOS, as well as guest lecturers. All events are open to the interested public.

Since 2022, Open Thursday has been a subseries of FUZ&JA, a broader science popularization project at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek.

The main idea behind Open Thursday is the dissemination of knowledge and the promotion of a culture of dialogue. Open Thursday aims to bring scientific topics closer to a wider audience and promote the idea that all research should benefit the community and be validated by the public.

The objectives of Open Thursday are to encourage critical thinking, develop communication skills, and foster learning about different cultures, ideas and concepts that form an integral part of humanities education.
