WORKSHOP: “DEVELOPING STUDENTS’ COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND A POSITIVE CLASSROOM ATMOSPHERE”
A new event organised by the FFOS Alumni Association as part of the FUZ&JA programme brings a workshop by our colleague Branka Gale entitled “Developing Students’ Communication Skills and a Positive Classroom Atmosphere”.
Branka Gale is a primary school teacher with approximately 20 years of experience. She participates in Erasmus projects and other professional development programmes and will share her knowledge and experience during the workshop.
LECTURE AND WORKSHOP: DEVELOPING STUDENTS’ COMMUNICATION SKILLS
A new event organised by the FFOS Alumni Association as part of the FUZ&JA programme brings a lecture by our colleague Branka Gale entitled “Developing Students’ Communication Skills”.
Branka Gale is a primary school teacher with approximately 20 years of experience. She participates in Erasmus projects and other professional development programmes and will share her knowledge and experience during the lecture. She summarises her lecture as follows:
“The lecture will discuss concentration games, which have become an indispensable part of contemporary teaching. They foster connection, integration and empathy, helping students develop a stronger sense of unity and encouraging greater cooperation throughout the learning process.”
The lecture and workshop will be held on 21 May 2025 at 12 noon in Room 9.
LECTURE: CHILDREN WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES
The FFOS Alumni Association invites you to a lecture by Mirta Vladić entitled “Children with Developmental Disabilities”. The lecture will be held on 13 March 2025, beginning at 8 a.m. in Room 64, as part of Professor Goran Livazović’s Leisure-Time Pedagogy course. The lecture is also part of the FUZ&JA project of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek.
Mirta Vladić is a teacher of Croatian Language and Literature, a drama educator, a senior master storyteller and the head of the Professional Council for Extracurricular Activities of Osijek-Baranja County. Drawing on her extensive first-hand experience, she will speak about working and volunteering with children and young people with Down syndrome.

AUDIOVISUAL TRANSLATION WORKSHOP
Open Thursday and the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek invite you to a workshop by Mišo Grundler, MA in English and Swedish Language and Literature, which will be held on Monday, 10 March 2025, beginning at 9:45 a.m. at the Faculty, in Room 16.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
The workshop entitled “The Art of Condensation: Audiovisual Translation Workshop” aims to introduce participants to the fundamentals of audiovisual translation, the most widespread form of translation in everyday life. Participants will learn about the history of this youngest branch of translation, its particular features and characteristics, especially the art of condensing and adapting text to the spatial and temporal limitations of subtitles. They will also gain insight into professional translation practice, learn about the different types and applications of audiovisual translation, become familiar with the fundamental rules of audiovisual translation in Croatia and worldwide and explore the challenges faced by audiovisual translators. Furthermore, all participants will learn the basics of using subtitling software and receive the software package together with instructions for use. Those who wish to do so will then have the opportunity to try translating subtitles and receive feedback from the lecturer.
ABOUT THE LECTURER:
Mišo Grundler (1988) works in audiovisual, literary and theatre translation from English, Swedish, Danish and Norwegian and is also a court interpreter. Since 2015, he has taught as an external associate and assistant at the Chair of Scandinavian Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. He has worked in audiovisual translation at Croatian Radiotelevision since 2011. To date, approximately fifty of his literary translations have been published, including both fiction and non-fiction, some of which have received Croatian and international awards. He is Vice-President of the Croatian Literary Translators Association and a member of the Executive Board of the Croatian Association of Audiovisual Translators.
Lecture: Student Support Services in Schools and Cooperation with Parents
We invite you to a lecture entitled “Student Support Services in Schools and Cooperation with Parents”, organised by the Alumni Association as part of the FUZ&JA programme. The lecture will be delivered by Iva Šlogar, MA in Pedagogy and a school pedagogue. It will be held on 16 January 2025 in Room 58, from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m.
Workshop: Drama Methods in Croatian Language Teaching
We invite everyone interested to the workshop “Drama Methods in Croatian Language Teaching”, led by our colleague Mirta Vladić as part of the FUZ&JA project. The aim of the workshop is to demonstrate the importance of drama activities in education and their application in literature classes through drama techniques such as freeze frames, inner monologue, thought tunnel, hot seating, improvisation and thoughts in the head.

LECTURE: EXPERIENCING ART
We invite everyone interested to the lecture Experiencing Art, which will be held on Monday, 30 January 2024, at 5 p.m. in Room 39 at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek. The lecture will be delivered by Martina Ivanović, MA in Education of English Language and Literature and Philosophy, and Lucija Leventić, MA in Education of Philosophy and Croatian Language and Literature.
The lecture and open discussion aim to further examine the relationship between the individual and the work of art, considering the relationship between the author, the artwork and society, or the wider public. It is also important to draw attention to contemporary restrictions on artistic creation, which frequently arise from an emphasis on profitability, digital omnipresence and the struggle for an artwork to achieve the status of a recognised trend. The lecture will also present a phenomenological and hermeneutical understanding of the work of art and of the dialogue established between the author, the work and its recipient.

BOOK PRESENTATION: GENDER DIFFERENCES IN CONGRESSIONAL SPEECHES
You have probably heard that men are from Mars and women are from Venus. Have you ever thought that you and your significant other speak different languages? Mars and Venus may have something to do with it. Or perhaps not.
When we consider the public sphere, matters become more complicated. What happens when men or women enter a world predominantly dominated by the other gender? Can the glass ceiling traditionally associated with women be broken? Are there differences in how male and female politicians express themselves? Find out at the presentation of a book examining gender differences in political speeches.
