Students and Mental Health Challenges: Support That Makes a Difference

On 22 September 2025, Ena Štrk, a psychologist and staff member of the Department for Psychological Counselling of Students at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek, appeared on the HRT4 programme Studio 4. The discussion focused on topics of exceptional importance to the student population: mental health, the stigmatisation of psychological difficulties, ways of providing therapeutic support and the work of the Department itself.

The programme addressed the growing number of students facing mental health challenges, as well as the importance of destigmatising the act of seeking psychological help. Psychologist Ena Štrk emphasised how important it is to provide students with a safe and supportive environment in which they can speak openly about their emotions, difficulties and the stresses associated with student life.

The role of the Department for Psychological Counselling of Students, which operates within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek, was also presented. The Department offers students free, confidential and professional psychological support through various forms of counselling, ranging from individual in-person sessions to online therapy, tailored to each person’s needs and circumstances.

As World Mental Health Day (10 October) approaches, we would like to remind students that they are not alone and that it is perfectly acceptable to seek support. The Department for Psychological Counselling is available to provide students with conversation, support and assistance in coping with the various challenges of student life.
