Lisbon Summer School in Linguistics
As part of the project Evaluative Meanings of Diminutives and Augmentatives in the Croatian Language (EZUH), Perica Vujić, a teaching assistant at the Department of Croatian Language and Literature, participated in the Lisbon Summer School in Linguistics from 29 June to 3 July 2026. The Summer School covered three areas: a) formal and experimental linguistics, b) lexicology, lexicography and terminology, and c) grammar and text. As his participation was funded through the EZUH project, one of the aims of which is to create a database, Vujić participated in the second area, focusing on lexicology, lexicography and terminology. He attended a workshop led by Dutch professor Pius ten Hacken, who has worked at the University of Innsbruck for many years. In the workshop entitled The Nature of Words: Implications for Dictionary Making and Terminology, the professor sought to explain the difficulties that may arise when defining the meaning of a term and distinguishing it from general vocabulary. The theoretical framework of the workshop was generative grammar, supplemented by insights from cognitive linguistics. The workshop brought together seventeen participants from various countries, including Indonesia, China, Nigeria, Brazil, Sweden, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland, Croatia and Portugal. In addition to its academic component, the Summer School provided an opportunity to promote our Faculty internationally and establish cooperation with other workshop participants.
