Visit to the Exhibition A History of Forgetting
First-year students of the single-major and double-major graduate study programmes in Croatian Language and Literature, who are attending the elective course Slavonian Literature and Cultural Memory taught by Professor Dubravka Brunčić, PhD, visited the exhibition A History of Forgetting – Parallel Worlds of Women Museum Professionals in Zagreb and Osijek at the Museum of Slavonia in Osijek on 8 May 2026.
The exhibition presents the work of the first female curators in museums in Zagreb and Osijek between the two world wars and during the post-war period, and was introduced to the students in greater detail by senior curator Andreja Šimičić. The aim of the study visit was to explore the sociocultural circumstances of the late nineteenth and first half of the twentieth century that shaped women’s educational opportunities, cultural engagement and professional development, as well as to consider the significance of women entering museum service and the contribution of female donors from all parts of Slavonia to enriching the holdings of the Museum of Slavonia. The visit demonstrated that women’s engagement in museum institutions represents an important segment of Slavonian and, consequently, Croatian women’s history.
