The Centre for North American Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek is conceived as a platform for scholarly and professional research in the fields of the history, culture, literature, politics, media and languages of the United States of America and Canada, based on interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary and multimethodological approaches. It will support, encourage and participate in bilateral and multilateral cooperation projects and exchanges of experience in the field of North American Studies, and bring together researchers, students and external collaborators on literary and cultural, linguistic, socio-historical and other projects.
The mission of the Centre for North American Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek will be:
- to strengthen research links and cooperation with North American countries (the United States of America and Canada), as well as with regional and European centres and institutes for North American Studies; and
- to become a recognizable national and regional research centre for interdisciplinary research projects and individual research in the fields of North American history, culture, literature, politics, media and language.
The vision of the Centre for North American Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek is:
- to become a leading regional research centre in the field of North American Studies.
The objectives of the Centre for North American Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek are:
- to become a place of social and academic analysis and dissemination of knowledge about North American history, literature, culture, politics, language and media;
- to establish cooperation between the Centre and North American academic and research institutions;
- to establish cooperation between the Centre and regional academic and research institutions whose fields of interest include North America and its history, literature, culture, language, media and politics;
- to establish cooperation between the Centre and European academic and research institutions whose fields of interest include North America and its history, literature, culture, language, media and politics;
- to establish cooperation between the Centre and Croatian academic and research institutions whose fields of interest include North America and its history, literature, culture, language, media and politics;
- to establish cooperation between the Centre and local social, cultural, educational and economic institutions;
- to promote the production of knowledge and critical analysis by proposing and participating in research projects, organizing research conferences, publishing research papers and other publications, organizing summer schools, holding public lectures, workshops, round tables and other activities aimed at promoting the Centre; and
- to train young researchers and students for research work in the field of North American Studies.
