The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek organises and conducts proficiency testing in the Croatian language and the Latin script. Examinations assessing proficiency in Croatian as a second and foreign language are intended for candidates who require a certificate of Croatian language proficiency as a condition for obtaining a long-term residence permit, acquiring Croatian citizenship, and for other purposes regulated by the Foreigners Act of the Republic of Croatia.
Instructions for foreign nationals taking the Croatian language and Latin script proficiency examination
– when registering for the examination, candidates must present their residence permit card or another document used for crossing the state border
– the fee for the Croatian language and Latin script proficiency examination for foreign nationals is EUR 170 per candidate
- proficiency examinations will be held in the summer semester of the 2025/2026 academic year according to the following schedule:
- 20 March 2026 at 10:00 a.m. (room 10)
- 17 April 2026 at 10:00 a.m. (room 10)
- 22 May 2026 at 10:00 a.m. (room 10)
- 19 June 2026 at 10:00 a.m. (room 10)
- 10 July 2026 at 10:00 a.m. (room 10)
- 4 September 2026 at 10:00 a.m. (room 10)
- 25 September 2026 at 10:00 a.m. (room 10)

The proficiency examination consists of the following components:
- listening comprehension
- reading comprehension
- knowledge of grammatical structures
- written expression
- oral expression
To pass the examination, a candidate must achieve at least 60% correct answers in each examination component. For the oral part of the examination, the candidate must prepare a topic from everyday life, present it briefly (5 minutes), and then discuss it with the examiners.
After passing the examination, the candidate receives a certificate that may be used for the purpose of exercising the right to permanent residence in the Republic of Croatia. The certificate is signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek.
