From Sunday, 12 July 2026 to Sunday, 19 July 2026, the Summer Academy Transylvania – German Language, Literature and History will take place in Hermannstadt/Sibiu, Romania. The aim of the programme is to promote the German language and culture as well as exchange in Southeastern Europe.
Students of German Studies from Germany, Croatia, Romania, Serbia and Hungary are warmly invited to apply. Travel and accommodation costs as well as meals will be covered. Accommodation will be provided in shared rooms at a youth centre. The participation fee is EUR 50.
The number of participants is limited. Further information about the selection process will be provided by e-mail.
The programme includes lectures, workshops and readings on the following topics:
- History of the Transylvanian Saxons
- Aspects of German-language literature in Romania
- Aspects of German-language literature in Hungary
- Aspects of the literature and regional studies of Southern Europe
In addition, the programme includes experiential regional studies, including a guided tour of Hermannstadt/Sibiu and various excursions in the surrounding area.

- short presentation on the German minority in Croatia
- travel insurance (additional health insurance) for Romania
