Sub-department of Croatian Language and Linguistics

• The Sub-department has existed since 1 February 2007 as one of three sub-departments established following the division of the single Sub-department of Croatian Language, which was founded in 1997.
• The Sub-department consists of one full professor with permanent appointment, one full professor and one associate professor.
• Members of the Sub-department teach the following compulsory courses: Theory of Language, Fundamentals of Language Culture, Word Formation in the Croatian Language, Syntax of the Croatian Language and Semantics, as well as the elective course Cognitive Linguistics.
• Members of the Sub-department also teach in the Translation Studies programme in English Language and Literature, in the undergraduate study programmes in Information Sciences, Art History and Psychology, as well as in the Doctoral Study Programme in Linguistics in Osijek and the Postgraduate Study Programme Croatian Philology in an Intercultural Context at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb; they have also taught in the Postgraduate Doctoral Study Programme in Croatian Studies in Zagreb.
• The Sub-department has actively participated in the establishment and organisation of the international academic conference Croatian Syntax Days in cooperation with the Institute for the Croatian Language since 2006, and eight conferences have been held to date.
• As researchers, members of the Sub-department have participated in the following research projects: A Cognitive Linguistic Approach to Polysemy in Croatian and Other Languages, Croatian as a First and Second/Foreign Language and Coherence of Written Text in a Foreign Language: A Comparison of Croatian, German, English, French and Hungarian (host institution: Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek), Linguistic Terminology (host institution: Institute for the Croatian Language, Zagreb) and Syntactic-Semantic Analysis of Complements and Adjuncts in the Croatian Language (host institution: Institute for the Croatian Language, Zagreb), while they are currently participating in the project Semantic-Syntactic Classification of Verbs in the Croatian Language (host institution: Institute for the Croatian Language, Zagreb).
• Members of the Sub-department actively participate in science popularisation programmes – Open Thursday and Science Festival – as well as in various forms of professional development for teachers at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek and Croatian language teachers in primary and secondary schools.
