Ana Werkmann Horvat received her master’s degree in Croatian and English language and literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek in 2011. After that, she enrolled in a master's program in linguistics at the University of Ottawa, and subsequently pursued a PhD in linguistics at the University of Oxford. Following her PhD studies, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher on the Creative Multilingualism project at the University of Oxford, and as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Croatian Language in Zagreb. She currently works as an associate professor at the Department of English Language and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek. Since April 2026, she has been the PI of the Croatian Science Foundation project 'Early Acquisition and Comprehension of Polysemous Words', which you can read more about here: polyacq.ffos.hr

Her broader areas of interest include psycholinguistics and semantics. In her previous research, she has focused on verb structures, figurative language, multilingualism, and many other topics.
