Sergej Filipović was born in Osijek in 1987. He graduated summa cum laude in History and Pedagogy from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek in 2011, and in 2013 he completed the postgraduate specialist study programme “Regional Comparative Studies of Central and Southeast Europe” at the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb. He earned his PhD in 2023 from the postgraduate study programme in Modern and Contemporary Croatian History at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. He gained professional experience in primary and secondary schools, and since 2016 he has been employed at the Department of History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek. He is the recipient of several awards, including first prize for the best paper by a young historian awarded by the Croatian Institute of History, Department for the History of Slavonia, Syrmia and Baranya, and second prize for the best essay on medieval history textbooks awarded by the Georg Eckert Institute. He is the author of numerous scientific and professional papers and has participated in several international scientific conferences. His research interests include history teaching methodology, the history of education, the history of everyday life, sports history, the history of marginal social groups, and 19th- and 20th-century history.
