Running for Mental Health Race

Running for Mental Health is an initiative that uses the power of movement, community and evidence-based knowledge to turn mental health care into an accessible, visible and shared experience.

The “Running for Mental Health” race, which has been held continuously every October since 2022, was created in response to the growing mental health challenges facing society. Mental health difficulties are now among the leading public health problems, with a high prevalence and a significant impact on the quality of life of individuals and communities. In Croatia, where more than 500 suicides are recorded annually, it is clear how important it is to develop preventive, accessible and destigmatizing initiatives that encourage people to take care of their mental health.

Through the annual race marking World Mental Health Day and a series of educational and promotional activities held throughout the year, the initiative creates a space in which evidence-based knowledge is transformed into real-life experience: movement, connection and a sense of belonging. The key objectives of the race are:

  • raising awareness and breaking down the stigma associated with mental health difficulties,
  • promoting physical activity as a simple yet powerful tool for maintaining mental health,
  • popularizing science, and
  • strengthening solidarity and social inclusion through humanitarian activities aimed at the most vulnerable.
