ACTION PLAN BASED ON THE RESULTS OF THE UNIVERSITY-WIDE STUDENT SURVEY
Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek conducts a university-wide student survey every year which, pursuant to the Regulations on Study Programmes and Studying at Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, is mandatory for students.

The student survey is conducted for the purpose of evaluating teaching and teaching staff, with the aim of improving the quality of teaching.
The survey includes two forms of respondent participation – answering the questions provided and entering comments.
The questions included in the survey assess the availability of teaching staff and the regularity of classes, teaching methods and assessment criteria, as well as the quality and availability of teaching materials. The responses to these questions provide quantitative data from which a numerical evaluation of the teaching staff and the Faculty is generated.
Comments expand upon, supplement and clarify the responses, thereby providing a broader picture of the quality of teaching, teaching methods and the ethical aspects of the work of teaching staff.
To maintain the integrity of the survey process, changes based on the survey results must be implemented, and teaching staff and students must be informed of the action plan and the changes introduced.
The Action Plan based on the survey results at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek covers three areas:
- criteria according to which teaching staff will be contacted based on the survey results
- measures to be taken based on the survey results
- informing teaching staff and students about the action plan and the measures implemented based on the survey results.
- Criteria according to which teaching staff will be contacted based on the survey results:
- significant positive deviations from the Faculty average, i.e. excellent survey ratings combined with supporting comments, which activate measures based on excellent survey results
- more than 50% of the comments contain negative observations, comments indicate breaches of ethical standards or violations of work obligations, and comments indicate recurring problems in teaching (failure to attend classes without prior notice, failure to hold consultation hours, unavailability to students, failure to inform students about course content, required reading, student obligations, methods, forms of assessment, learning outcomes and the workload expressed in ECTS credits, as well as unclear and/or inconsistent assessment criteria), which activates measures based on predominantly negative survey results.
- a. Measures based on excellent survey results
No later than 60 days after receiving the survey results, the Dean contacts the teaching staff members who received excellent ratings and informs them about possible forms of recognition:
- public commendation, subject to the prior consent of the teaching staff member
- an interview with the teaching staff members who received excellent ratings, to be published on the Faculty website and social media channels, subject to their prior consent
- personalised forms of recognition.
- b. Measures based on predominantly negative survey results
No later than 60 days after receiving the survey results, the Dean contacts the teaching staff members in accordance with the established criteria.
Teaching staff members who received predominantly negative results in the student survey are required to fulfil the following obligations within the prescribed period:
- submit a written explanation of the negative comments to the Dean
- submit to the Dean a plan for improving the results, including specific activities whose effectiveness will be evaluated during the next survey
- participate in at least one professional development workshop aimed at professional growth in the area of teaching, organised by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek.
If any comments indicate breaches of ethical standards or violations of work obligations, students will additionally be informed about the available options for reporting such incidents (https://www.ffos.unios.hr/studenti/stegovni-sud-za-studente/) and referred to the Faculty’s Student Psychological Counselling Office.
Anonymous reports submitted through the survey will not be considered!
The measures described above will continue to be implemented until the survey results become satisfactory.
All correspondence relating to the student survey results is confidential, meaning that the identity of the teaching staff member remains undisclosed unless they request otherwise.
- Informing teaching staff and students about the action plan and the measures implemented based on the survey results
This Action Plan Based on the Results of the University-Wide Student Survey is available on the Faculty website and the Faculty’s social media channels.
Teaching staff will be informed about the measures implemented based on the survey results, without disclosing the names of the teaching staff members concerned, at a meeting with the heads of organisational units. Students will be informed through student representatives at the organisational units, representatives of the Student Council and the student adviser, also known as the Student Vice-Dean.
The Action Plan Based on the Results of the University-Wide Student Survey is intended to ensure:
– feedback to teaching staff and improvement of the quality of teaching
– feedback to students regarding the activities undertaken to address the problems identified in the survey
– recognition of students as partners in efforts to improve the quality of the teaching process.
