Mission

The mission of the Department of German Language and Literature is to educate highly qualified professionals for various labour market needs requiring a high level of proficiency in the German language and knowledge of German culture. These primarily include teachers of German Language and Literature, translators from and into German, employees in telecommunications providing services in German, as well as specialists in German Language and Literature working in other fields after obtaining the necessary additional qualifications, such as tourism, the judiciary, the economic sector, cultural activities, and others.

For this purpose, we offer a choice between a three-year single-major undergraduate study programme in German Language and Literature and a three-year double-major undergraduate study programme in German Language and Literature. After acquiring fundamental knowledge of German Language and Literature at the undergraduate level, graduates may continue their studies by choosing between a two-year single-major graduate study programme in German Language and Literature, Teacher Education Track, a two-year double-major graduate study programme in German Language and Literature, Teacher Education Track, and a two-year double-major graduate study programme in German Language and Literature, Translation Track.

After completing their graduate studies, graduates in German Language and Literature may enrol in the Faculty’s postgraduate study programmes Linguistics and Literature and Cultural Identity, upon completion of which they obtain the academic degree of Doctor of Science.

Through its teaching and research activities, as well as its long-standing cooperation with other educational institutions and institutions outside the education sector, the Department has established itself as a regional centre that facilitates the exchange of knowledge and information through its highly qualified teachers and researchers specialising in various areas of German Language and Literature.
