Kukuljević Charter
The Croatian Library Association established the ‘Kukuljević Charter’ as a form of public recognition awarded to library professionals who are members of the Croatian Library Association for many years of work and significant achievements in the advancement of librarianship.

The Kukuljević Charter was awarded to:

Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Award

Emerald Group Publishing Limited and EFMD (an international network association) present an award for the best doctoral dissertation. The award recipient receives a cash prize of €1,500, a certificate and an award-winner logo that may be used in correspondence. This year (2015), there are seven categories for which applications may be submitted. The application deadline is 15 January 2016. The winners will be announced in March 2016.

The Highly Commended Award of the 2013 Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research for 2013 was awarded to Snježana Stanarević Katavić, PhD, a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Information Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek. Emerald Group Publishing Limited and the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) have for many years presented awards for the best doctoral research in various academic fields. Of the four awards presented and sponsored in 2013 by the editorial team of the Journal of Documentation in the field of library and information science, one was awarded to Snježana Stanarević Katavić, PhD, a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Information Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek. She received the award for research conducted as part of her doctoral dissertation entitled “Information Needs and Information Behaviour Patterns of People with Rare Chronic Diseases in the Republic of Croatia”. The research was conducted within the doctoral programme “Knowledge Society and Information Transfer” at the University of Zadar under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Sanjica Faletar Tanacković, PhD (Department of Information Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek), and co-supervision of Assoc. Prof. Gorka Vuletić, PhD (Department of Psychology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek).

OSChackathon Award

Known by different names in different technology circles, the hackathon has become part of the culture of many companies and a feature of numerous conferences. A hackathon refers to an event where developers come together to develop new applications. It always includes a time limit that encourages participants to define and complete their projects within a set timeframe. Due to a shortage of skilled workers on the labour market, the Osijek Software City association seeks to increase the attractiveness of the developer profession in Osijek, improve the competitiveness of young programmers and encourage (self-)employment. Prizes range from HRK 1,000 (3rd place) to HRK 4,000 (1st place) per team member.

Tomislav Jakopec, PhD, was the winner of the 2nd and 3rd Osijek hackathons organised by Osijek Software City (in 2013 and 2014).

The ProQuest Doctoral Dissertation Award

The ProQuest Doctoral Dissertation Award has a long history dating back to 1974. It is presented by the Information Science Education Committee. The award for the best doctoral dissertation is $1,000, and the recipient also receives $500 for travel and other expenses related to attending the ASIS&T Annual Meeting, where they will have the opportunity to present a summary of their doctoral dissertation. Tibor Toth Award

The Croatian Information and Documentation Society established the “Tibor Toth Award” as a form of public recognition awarded to early- and mid-career professionals and researchers for significant contributions to the field and practice of information science. The award is named after Tibor Toth, MSc, a distinguished Croatian information professional and researcher whose work advanced and promoted information science and related activities for the benefit of the wider community. Substantiated nominations are submitted in two copies by post to: Croatian Information and Documentation Society, c/o IRB Library, Bijenička 54, 10000 Zagreb; or electronically to the HID Secretary at marina.mayer@irb.hr (with “Nomination for the Tibor Toth Award” in the Subject field).

Emerald Outstanding Papers Awards for Journals

This award is at the core of Emerald’s award programme. Each Emerald journal selects a winner of this award.

Prof. Kornelija Petr Balog, PhD, received the Highly Commended Award in 2009 from the editorial board of the journal Performance Measurement and Metrics for the article: Petr Balog, Kornelija. Measuring Croatian public and academic library culture: interviews with library directors. // Performance Measurement and Metrics 10, 3(2009), 220-235.

The research article by Asst. Prof. Boris Bosančić, PhD, entitled “Information in the knowledge acquisition process”, published in the Journal of Documentation, received the Highly Commended Paper award in 2017.
