Applied linguistics is concerned with the study of practical issues related to language and communication, such as foreign language learning, teaching and acquisition, language programme evaluation, multilingualism, discourse analysis, translation and corpus analysis. The teachers and associates working at the Sub-department of Applied Linguistics specialize in one or more areas of applied linguistics research. The teaching staff consists of experienced and active teachers and translators who incorporate their practical experience into both teaching and research.

The Sub-department of Applied Linguistics offers two graduate study programmes in applied linguistics:

Teacher Education Track
Translation Track

Upon completion of the Teacher Education Track, students acquire the academic degree of Master of English Language and Literature – Teacher of English as a Foreign Language (MA). Upon completion of the Translation Track, students acquire the academic degree of Master of English Language and Literature – Translator (MA).
