About Us

The Sub-department for English Literature Studies of the Department of English at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Osijek, founded the Centre for Popular Culture (CPC). The Centre for Popular Culture serves as a platform for interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary and multi-methodological scholarly research of global popular culture. Understood as a common body of globally accepted practices and beliefs marked by their availability in the form of commercial products and their omnipresence in the mass media, popular culture (or lived culture) is a phenomenon encompassing various everyday practices (from food and fashion to mass media and different forms of entertainment, such as literature, film, television, comic books, music, video games and sports) that can and should be observed from multiple points of view. The Centre aims to support, encourage, and participate in bilateral and multilateral projects, to serve as a hub for humanities and social studies scholars and students who wish to share their knowledge and experience, and to take part in projects related to popular culture, literature, film, art, historiography and sociology.
