The Department for the Culture of the Croatian Language continued its lecture series entitled Through Language to Culture on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, at the Archdiocesan Vicariate in Osijek, where it organised the first lecture of the year in cooperation with the Saint John Paul II Institute for the New Evangelisation in Osijek.

On behalf of the host institution, the attendees were welcomed by Associate Professor Davor Vuković, PhD, while Associate Professor Dubravka Smajić, PhD, Head of the Department for the Culture of the Croatian Language of the Croatian Philological Society, introduced the life and work of the lecturer, Professor Milica Lukić, PhD.

Professor Lukić’s lecture took the audience through the following medieval and early modern Glagolitic sites in Slavonia and western Syrmia: Brodski Drenovac, Lovčić, Martin, Srednji Lipovac, Opatovac, Novska, Pleternica, Našice, Gorjani, Komletinci, Rajevo Selo, Drenovci, Đakovo, Vinkovci, Vukovar and Osijek.

By following this local Cyrillo-Methodian route, spatial writing was used to demonstrate how Glagolitic culture was established and developed in the region between the Sava, Drava and Danube rivers, as well as how it continued to thrive not only until the end of the nineteenth century but also today, through its renewed life.
