About Us

The Centre for Digital Ethics was established in 2019, with the primary mission of enabling high-quality interdisciplinary research into the humanities and social science implications of digital media as a new medium and positioning the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek as a centre of scientific excellence in this research field. Among other topics, the Centre focuses on the educational effects of the internet, teaching in the new digital environment, changes in media, publishing and journalism in the digital age, digital pluralism, identities in virtual spaces and online social networks, online political participation and civic engagement, innovative digital methods in the social sciences and humanities and big data management, risky behaviours in the digital world (particularly excessive gaming, cyberbullying and other forms of online violence, sexting, i.e. sending sexually explicit messages and images/videos, excessive internet use, hate speech, etc.), the impact of new communication technologies on migration processes, the effect of the internet on public perceptions of science and technology, and other issues related to the social impact of the internet.

The activities and objectives of the Centre for Digital Ethics encompass five areas:

  1. applying for scientific and professional projects;
  2. organising scientific conferences;
  3. publishing scientific papers and other publications;
  4. organising public lectures, workshops, round tables and other science popularisation activities;
  5. other activities that contribute to improving scientific research cooperation between and within organisational units, increasing the chances of successful applications for scientific research and professional projects, expanding opportunities to work on professional and market-oriented projects, and improving cooperation with external stakeholders.
