The research project “Croatia and Europe through History – Transfer of Ideas and Cultural Exchange” (HEPTIK) will explore multiple historical processes through which the “Croatian lands”, as a geographical, (geo)political and cultural entity, participated in reciprocal interactions with the broader European area. Using an interdisciplinary methodological approach – ranging from historiography and the history of philosophy to linguistics and folklore studies – the project examines key periods of intensified cultural exchange. Particular emphasis is placed on individual and collective agents of cultural exchange, transnational networks, and the institutional infrastructure that facilitated the transfer of ideas and cultural exchange. Ultimately, the project seeks to deepen the understanding of the ways in which Croatian cultural identity was shaped through dialogue with European traditions, while at the same time highlighting the contribution of the “Croatian lands” to Europe’s intellectual and artistic heritage. The research results of the project will be disseminated through scholarly publications and articles, presentations at national and international academic conferences, and public lectures.
