Successful Completion of “Libros Hackathon 2026”

Web3 Technology in the Hands of Secondary School Students, at Least for One Day

Last Friday, 8 May 2026, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek became a centre of innovation and digital creativity by hosting the national programming competition “Libros Hackathon 2026”. This unique event, organised by the Libros Information Sciences Student Club, brought together secondary school students from across Croatia, who took on the intensive challenge of developing functional digital solutions within a limited six-hour time frame. The central theme of the competition focused on the blockchain experience and Web3 programming. Although participants were not expected to have prior expert knowledge of these advanced technologies, the level of resourcefulness and creativity they demonstrated exceeded the initial expectations of the expert committee. Using their own equipment, the contestants developed prototypes of peer-to-peer platforms designed to connect students and facilitate the exchange of information, thereby directly addressing the assigned challenge. A total of eight teams participated in the competition, each of which was provided with professional guidance. The event was further enriched by the participation of colleagues from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology (FERIT) Osijek, whose specialised knowledge significantly contributed to the quality of the projects and encouraged interfaculty cooperation within the University of Osijek.

Following a thorough evaluation of the technical implementation of the code, innovation and presentation quality, the expert committee chaired by Assoc. Prof. Tomislav Jakopec, PhD, announced the most successful teams. The top two places in the rankings went to teams from the Electrical Engineering and Traffic School Osijek. The winner of the competition and recipient of the first prize was the team named sudo rm -rf/, which demonstrated outstanding technical skills within the blockchain architecture. Second place went to the creative team Brodogumari. Third place was awarded to the KTTIM4 team from Technical School Kutina.

This project once again confirmed the importance of synergy between the academic community, student associations and leading business partners such as SuperBalkanTeam, Sparta Lab, NSK, GISKO and other sponsors, who provided resources and incentive prizes for young talents.
