On Sunday, 30 March 2025, the sixth cycling tour of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek was held along the Osijek – Kopački Rit route. In addition to promoting a healthy lifestyle and introducing participants to the local natural heritage, the main aim of the cycling tour was to inform the public about the challenges faced by people with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. This year’s cycling tour was once again organised in support of the Croatian Library Association’s “I Want to Read Too” campaign, which the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek officially joined in 2019.
This year’s organising team once again included the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek, the Libros Information Sciences Student Club and the Psihos Psychology Student Club, the City and University Library Osijek, the Association of Librarians of Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem, the Osijek branch of the Croatian Reading Association, SUVAG Polyclinic Osijek, and the City Association for Sports Recreation “Sport for All”.
Despite the bad weather in the preceding days, Sunday was sunny, and 59 participants completed the 30-kilometre route along the Drava River embankment. Thanks to the sponsorship of Osijek City Transport, several participants who did not own bicycles were also able to take part in the ride. Before departure, Eleonora Matić, a police officer for prevention from the Office of the Head of the Osijek-Baranja Police Administration, introduced the participants to traffic rules for cyclists and distributed suitable promotional materials.
At the finish, participants took a short break with refreshments and listened to a very interesting presentation about Kopački Rit Nature Park and its plant and animal life.
Although students made up the majority of participants in this year’s cycling tour, several pupils from Class 4A of Franjo Krežma Primary School confirmed through their participation that the route can be completed without extensive preparation. We therefore take this opportunity to invite members of the public to join us in even greater numbers next year.
