Second-year students of Croatian Language and Literature attending the elective course The Language of Medieval Symbols, taught by Professor Milica Lukić, PhD, visited the exhibition Etruscans from the Vanished River – Faces and Myths from the Museums of Chiusi and Chianciano at the Archaeological Museum in Osijek on 1 April 2026.

As the Etruscans were one of the most enigmatic and influential European civilisations of antiquity, within which an alphabetic writing system derived from the Greek alphabet apparently developed in the eighth century BC and later gave rise to the Latin alphabet, the primary aim of the study visit was to examine their highly developed and complex symbolism. In addition to written symbols, this symbolism can be divided into three further groups: political and status symbols, religious and mystical symbols, and mythological and artistic symbols.
